There are many different kinds and types of bread on the shelves of every grocery store. The most basic bread just uses ground grain of some type, water, a sweetener of some sort such as honey or sugar, yeast, and heat to bake the bread. Different types of bread add more ingredients or leave out part of the ingredients such as the yeast.
Yeast makes the dough rise, which gives the bread its texture. Bread that is made without yeast can be either flat bread or quick breads. Flat bread uses little or no leaven at all. Quick breads generally use baking powder as a leaven. Quick breads got their name from the fact that they are much quicker to make than traditional yeast breads. Yeast bread dough must be placed in a warm spot to rest and let the yeast produce air pockets in the dough, which causes the dough to rise. Quick breads can be baked as soon as they are mixed together.
Examples of yeast breads are white and whole grain breads, rye bread, French bread, Italian bread, hamburger and hot dog buns, and more. Yeast breads can be made with many different types of grain, which will change the texture and taste of the bread. You can also add different herbs and vegetables to your yeast bread such as caraway seeds, onions, garlic and more. Examples of quick breads includes banana and other fruit breads, donuts, bagels, etc. Flat bread includes Middle Eastern pocket bread or pita bread. All these different types of bread are fairly easy to make in your own home kitchen with a good recipe and a little practice.
