Food Network Cooking Tips

Cooking healthy meals that your family will eat night after night is one of the more difficult tasks for the homemaker. It is hard to come up with new ideas for cooking each night, week after week, month after month, and year after year. The Food Network channel always has great suggestions for meals and recipes if you have the time to watch it. For those people who are short on time and short on menu ideas, you can do a quick search on the web, and Food Network offers many tips for healthy meals.

Now that summer is almost here, you can use your grill for much more than just hamburgers and hotdogs. Grilling foods allows you to cook them without adding a lot of fat or oils in the cooking process. Grilling intensifies the flavor of most foods, so try grilling different, firmer, flesh fruits and vegetables in addition to your main meat or fish. Good vegetables to grill include eggplant, corn-on-the-cob, summer squash, onions, and portabello mushrooms. Good fruits to grill include pineapple rings, bananas, and peaches.

If you want to grill a steak for your main meal, start with a nice tender cut that still has a little fat on it to keep it juicy. All you need to flavor the meat is a little salt and pepper on both sides and sprinkle it with olive oil. In addition, brush your grill with olive oil to keep the meat from sticking and tearing as you turn it over. Cook your steaks about 6 minutes per side for a medium done, one inch steak. Use a spray bottle of water to control flair ups. Grilling is a fun and healthy way to cook during the summer months.
