Have you ever made ribbed baskets? Do you know the history of ribbed baskets? Whatever your response, you can find more information at a new website (www.homegrownfromtheheart.com) and especially the blog (http://www.homegrownfromtheheart.com/2009/08/18/ribbed-baskets.html) about ribbed baskets.
Ribbed baskets originated in Europe and were very common in Great Britain. The settlers from the British Isles brought this style of basket known as a buttocks egg basket with them when they traveled across the Atlantic. Some of the settlers settled in Kentucky, Tennessee and all the way to Oklahoma.
The Native Americans learned to make this style of basket and now many Appalachian artisans are making them. There are also many "how-to" videos on YouTube that will give you more information.
